Western Cattle Egret

The smallest and scarcest of the white Egrets seen in the parish although a few years ago 15 were seen together in a field feeding amongst a herd of cattle. These are globally the most widespread of Egret species and are the ones seen on the backs of mammals in films about Africa. How many we see in the parish will probably depend on how much livestock are grazing in the fields. It also has a yellow beak and a gingery tinge to its feathers particularly noticeable in the breeding season.
