Isabelline Shrike

A new species for the parish!

An Isabelline Shrike at Woods Mill was found by Birdwatch member Alex R on the 26th. There are two species formerly listed as Isabelline Shrike – of course we all knew that! Opinion is divided as to whether it is a Turkestan or Daurian Shrike. The BTO tells us “this is a rare visitor from central Asia. More than half of the records have come from November. Daurian Shrike is migratory, wintering to the south and west of the breeding range, from Pakistan west to central Africa.”
